Why some warning signs are dismissed, while others trigger excessive worry

At the start of the year, many women become more attentive to their bodies. This is a positive habit.

Problems arise when attention shifts to one of two extremes:

👉 Everything feels alarming, or

👉 Important symptoms are minimized.

This article aims to help interpret gynecological symptoms correctly — without dramatizing, but without ignoring important warning signs.

Bleeding between periods

Intermenstrual bleeding is often related to hormonal variations, stress, or a change in contraception.

A consultation is recommended if:

  • It occurs regularly

  • It happens after sexual intercourse

  • It occurs after menopause

  • It appears for the first time after age 35

➡️ Most of the time, it’s harmless, but it should not be systematically ignored.

Feeling of heaviness or pulling in the lower abdomen

Mild pain or pressure may be linked to the menstrual cycle, muscles, or bowel activity.

A consultation is recommended if:

  • Symptoms persist

  • They are localized on one side

  • They increase over time

➡️ The body signals what it needs — persistent symptoms deserve attention.

Changes in vaginal discharge

Vaginal discharge naturally varies with the cycle.

A consultation is recommended if:

  • There is an unusual or unpleasant odor

  • The color becomes grayish, greenish, or frothy

  • Pain or burning appears

➡️ Not every change is pathological, but it should be evaluated.

Increasing menstrual pain

Painful periods are common. However, progressively worsening pain is not normal.

A consultation is recommended if:

  • Painkillers become ineffective

  • Daily life is disrupted

  • Pain occurs outside of periods

➡️ Pain is not normal when it becomes persistent.

Significant changes in menstrual flow

Stress or hormonal changes can influence periods.

A consultation is recommended if:

  • Periods suddenly become very heavy

  • Blood clots appear

  • Fatigue or dizziness occurs

➡️ The body compensates for a long time before showing limits.

Between anxiety and dismissal

Not all symptoms are serious, but none should be ignored.

What fuels anxiety:

  • Repeated self-diagnosis

  • Excessive internet searches

  • Multiple consultations without a clear plan

What truly helps:➡️ A trusted doctor➡️ Clear criteria for follow-up

Summary

At the start of the year:

Being healthy doesn’t mean feeling nothing. It means interpreting your body’s signals with calm and discernment.

Take care of yourself!
