Miscarriage, a reality often whispered but shared by many couples, transcends a diversity of scenarios and medical trajectories. Explore with us the nuances of this delicate subject.

Definitions:

Miscarriage (Abortus Spontaneus): The involuntary loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week.

Missed Abortion: A halted pregnancy where the fetus does not develop, but pregnancy symptoms persist.

Abortus Imminens: Imminent threat of miscarriage, with mild bleeding but the cervix remains closed.

Abortus Incompletus: A partial miscarriage where part of the tissue remains in the uterus.

Prevalence and Taboos:

Affecting approximately 25% of pregnancies, miscarriage is a common reality often veiled by taboo. The silence surrounding this topic sometimes creates a challenging void to fill. By breaking this taboo, we provide space for understanding, sharing, and mutual support. The more openly we discuss miscarriage, the more we contribute to normalizing it and easing the often-hidden pain behind it.

Psychological Impact:

Miscarriage can leave a deep psychological imprint. Sadness, anger, guilt, and even fear can set in. However, sharing these emotions with loved ones, friends, or healthcare professionals can be the beginning of a healing process. Recognizing and understanding these emotional reactions is crucial to help those going through this ordeal overcome psychological obstacles.

Detailed Causes:

Genetic Issues: The majority of miscarriages are linked to chromosomal abnormalities not inherited from the parents.

Infections: Some infections can influence the course of pregnancy.

Autoimmunity: Autoimmune disorders can sometimes be associated with miscarriages.

Coagulation: Blood coagulation issues may play a role.

Anatomical: Anatomical abnormalities of the uterus can also be factors.

Treatment of Abortus Incompletus or Missed Abortion:

In the case of abortus incompletus, a procedure called curettage can be performed to remove the remaining tissue. For missed abortions, various options, including waiting or medical intervention, can be considered depending on the individual situation.

When to Conceive Again:

The ideal time to conceive after a miscarriage depends on various factors. Generally, it is advisable to wait at least one menstrual cycle to allow the body to recover.

Investigations after Multiple Miscarriages or After 12 Weeks:

In the case of three miscarriages or sometimes after two, thorough investigations are recommended to determine the underlying cause. Similarly, if miscarriage occurs after 12 weeks, a comprehensive evaluation is often undertaken.

Prevention of Miscarriage:

While some miscarriages are inevitable, measures can be taken to reduce risks. Overall good health, avoidance of harmful substances, stress management, and regular medical monitoring can contribute to maintaining a healthy pregnancy.

In conclusion, miscarriage is a complex chapter of reproduction. By sharing knowledge and breaking silences, we can contribute to providing holistic support to those going through this challenging experience.
