Ectopic pregnancy (EP) poses a serious threat when the fertilized egg attaches outside the uterus, primarily in the fallopian tubes. Here's an overview of crucial aspects of this condition:

ree

What is it and Where does it Occur?

EP occurs when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, mostly in the fallopian tubes, but sometimes in other sites like the ovaries, cervix, or abdominal cavity.

Symptoms:

Symptoms of EP can vary, including severe and persistent abdominal or pelvic pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, dizziness, fainting, shoulder pain, and absence of typical signs of pregnancy.

Risk Factors:

History of EP, fallopian tube surgery, sexually transmitted infections (especially chlamydia and gonorrhea), use of intrauterine contraceptives, and smoking are factors that can increase the risk of EP.

Why EP Needs to be Treated and Risks if Left Untreated:

It's crucial to intervene promptly in EP, as untreated EP can lead to severe and potentially life-threatening complications, including tubal rupture, infertility, hypovolemic shock, and chronic pain.

In summary, EP requires immediate intervention to prevent devastating consequences. Early awareness of symptoms and prompt medical care-seeking are essential to protect the health and well-being of affected women.
